Hand Luggage / Cabin Luggage:
Hand luggage (also known as cabin luggage or carry on items) are the items of luggage that a traveller is permitted to have with them in the passenger part of a plane, bus or train. Travellers are permitted to have a small, limited amount of carry on items. Such hand luggage is normally stored under seats or in overhead compartments. Trains often have such compartments near the train doors or in overhead compartments.
Hand Luggage Security Restrictions:
After the terrorist plots of 2006, hand luggage was restricted to one cabin bag no bigger than 45 cm x 35 cm x 16 cm on flights to the US and from the UK. On 21 September 2006, the BAA increased the size of hand luggage items to 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm . Most airports still have a strict limit of one piece of hand luggage per passenger.
European Union:
Since the 6th of November 2006 the European Union has imposed the following restrictions:
Restrictions on liquids:
Liquids must be no more than100 ml
All liquids must be placed in a zipped plastic bag (1 ltr max)
(Including items such as lotions, toothpastes, gels, lip sticks and moist paper (such as baby wipes)
Exceptions: Prescribed medicines)
Infant items such as milk
Nutrition items for people with diabetes
Restrictions on potentially harmful objects:
Weapons and sports utilities (such as cross and bow), sharp objects.
Clubs and sticks (including utilities for sport)
Inflammable objects, including ethanol and alcohol over 70 % in content.
Toxic chemicals, including blood samples and liquid batteries.
